Knitting Donations

Many keen knitters across the parish and further afield regularly contribute to the parish donations of knitting. They share their enjoyment and their skills in knitting and crocheting blankets, hats, scarves, neck warmers and, of course, lovely baby items.

There is a ‘Community Corner’ in Tarves Church with a table for collecting knitting so good work can be shared. You can hand in knitting to Tarves Kirk during Tuesday Coffee Mornings between 10.00am and 11.00am and after services on Sundays between 11.00am and 12.00pm.

Donations are distributed among the organisations below.

Aberdeen Maternity Hospital

Baby hats are welcome but must be very pale colours and varied sizes. We have a large bag ready to hand over to a staff memebr who lives in the village.

Abernecessities

Founded in Aberdeen in 2019, AberNecessities exists to ensure every child has the basic essentials they need to thrive. Working alongside local services and the wider community, they provide the everyday essentials and thoughtful extras that help because No Child Should Go Without. Knitting donations include children's hats, scarves and warm blankets as well as knitwear for younger children.

Cyrenians and Street Friends
These charities match each other's services in provision to those who are homeless or struggling with pressures of life. Adult hats/neck-warmers are much in demand along with larger blankets.

Friends of Anchor
ARI’s Anchor Unit (Aberdeen and North Centre for Haematology, Oncology and Radiotherapy) welcomes heart shaped cushions and post-surgery drainage bags. If you would like to sew a heart pattern or a drainage bag, please contact Ruth Nisbet tbc.editor@btinternet.com who will forward patterns. Friends of Anchor also appreciate the Octopus, nervous patients enjoy the texture of the ‘legs’ which provide  distraction during treatment.

Woodend Hospital, Rosewell and Crosby House Nursing Homes
The Orthopaedic Rehab Unit, Stroke Unit and Morningfield House welcome donations of twiddle muffs, octopuses and knee blankets. Rosewell and Crosby House Nursing Homes are also recipients.

A twiddle muff is a simple knitted muff, with various items attached for the user to ‘twiddle’. They are invaluable in providing warmth, distraction, and comfort to patients with dementia.

HANOVER COURT KNITTERS
If you are unsure of knitting, why not join the Knitting Group in the lounge at Hanover Court at 2.00 pm on Tuesday afternoons and they will be very happy to guide you and share knitting patterns. There are some very simple patterns for beginners. The established knitters are happy to give guidance and supply endless patience if you would like to start an easier knit.

Donations of wool
If you have wool you no longer need, the group would appreciate adding to their stock. Contact Jessie Simpson at Hanover 01651 851958.
