Formartine Youth Project

Be, Belong and Believe

Formartine Youth Project, or FYP as it is known, is all about the children and youth in the communities of Udny Green, Pitmedden, Tarves, Barthol Chapel and Methlick.

The project was established in 2013 to help meet the needs of young people in this rural area by creating safe places for them to meet, develop relationships, to be themselves, to believe in themselves and to feel they belong. Youth cafes, youth club, special assemblies, fundraising events, holiday clubs, outings...there is always something going on.

There is also regular chaplaincy involvement in the five local Primary Schools and alongside Community Learning Development (CLD) Meldrum the project supports youth activities in Meldrum Academy and the community.

Activities

  • The Barthol Chapel Youth Club meets on the last Friday of the month between 19:00 and 21:00, usually at the School.  Everyone from P6 to S6 is welcome.
The February session will be ‘Leap’ year related challenges and games.

  • Pitmedden Youth Cafe meets every Thursday from 3.15 - 5.15, regularly welcoming 50+ young people and receiving great feedback. A team of five young volunteers, is signed up with Saltire awards (which recognise and celebrate young volunteers – providing certificates for their CV), their expectations have been discussed, job roles drawn up and a rota scheduled. FYP are delighted to have presented their first ‘Challenge’ award to recognise 25 hours of volunteering and also sign off Maisy on her six months of volunteering for her Duke of Edinburgh award.

  • Methlick Youth Cafe meets at Methlick Church from 3.15 - 5.15 on the first and third Friday of the month. Providing a warm, safe space for young people to hang out with friends and enjoy sociable activities, have snacks and build positive relationships.

  • Lunch Time Club Tarves Primary (The Cool Club)
Held on Thursday lunch times. Very well attended – approximately 20 each week.

  • Pitmedden, Methlick, Tarves, Udny Green
A 15 week program is being offered to support emotional wellbeing to small groups of targeted individuals in Tarves, Udny Green, Pitmedden and Methlick. Currently working with 21 young people. The program is produced by Transforming Lives for Good — a Christian charity that helps churches offer support within their local communities and is designed for children and young people to explore emotional health and wellbeing, develop emotional awareness and look at 'emotional first aid’.
