About Us

Formartine Parish Church in North East Scotland

Formartine Parish Church, in north east Scotland, is a union of the former parishes of Udny, Pitmedden, Tarves and Barthol Chapel. It is a welcoming and inclusive Christian congregation, part of the Church of Scotland — one of the largest organisations in the country and the biggest Christian denomination in Scotland.

At a local level the parish church offers opportunities for worship through weekly Sunday Services and other special services, at which those of all denominations or none are welcome.

Fellowship, pastoral care and practical support, are integral to the life of the congregation which offers a focus for celebrating life events (births, marriages and funerals).

Growth of personal faith is encouraged through preaching, prayer, bible study and discussion groups.

The following are some of the key features of our life as a congregation:

  • We strive to offer a grass roots Christian presence, rooted and earthed within the life of the local community. We seek to live out our Christian faith — prayer and worship, caring and sharing, learning and serving — in the place where we live, amongst our family, friends and neighbours.

  • We strive to be an inclusive church. Come as you are.

  • We are not perfect. We are a fallible group of people who sometimes get it wrong and occasionally sing out of tune.

  • We don't have all the answers. As followers of Jesus, we strive to have 'faith 'seeking understanding.' We are enthralled by the mystery of God revealed in Jesus and we recognise the complexity and challenges of faith in today’s world.
